Vintage idletach Compact Vibrating Reed Tachometers

This is an Idletach vibrating tachometer by Amflo. Very unusual item in its original box.

Because these tachometers measure speeds by contact, this type of tachometer is can be used for many speed measuring problems, especially checking speeds of totally enclosed rotating equipment. These tachometers operate on the well known and time tested principle of resonance.

The instrument is simply held against motor, turbine, pump, compressor, or other rotating equipment and the speed is shown by the vibration of a steel reed which is tuned to a certain standard speed.

Ruggedly constructed, permanent accuracy, simple to use. The instrument imposes no load and cannot be damaged by overspeeding. Accuracy is 0.5% of rated speed.

This is very old item from the 50s. A fantastic addition for the Car enthusiast and old time mechanics.

among Cars listed are Hudson, Studebaker, Imperial, Plymouth, Mercury, Packard, Oldsmobile, Nash and Rambler, Desoto, Continental, and of course, Edsel.

This is a great display for a collection, in the original box, to boot!

But there is little on the road that’s more irritating than a flash prat in a car they clearly can’t handle, so we just couldn’t resist running this video taken in a quiet Chicago suburb.

McLaren plans that the cars they produce will be more exclusive, and more expensive, than the competition from Italy. The ball will start rolling with the McLaren P11, a car aimed squarely at the F430/Gallardo market.
