Subaru has revealed the new XV at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show, taking the company into the compact crossover segment for the first time. Like its concept precursor, the XV features a hexagonal grille and 'hawk eye' headlamps, designed to emphasize the vehicle's brand identity. Alloy wheels and cut-away cladding also aim to give the car a distinctive feel.

At last, we can present the strangest new BMW for some time (and there have been a few): the new 5-series Gran Turismo, or GT for short. Motoring journos sometimes overuse the word ‘radical’, but the new BMW 5-series GT is one of the few new arrivals that is genuinely segment busting. Nissan is recalling at least 195,000 Pathfinder and Infiniti QX4 SUVs sold in 20 cold-weather states and the District of Columbia to inspect steering columns for rust and corrosion. Nissan is concerned that road salt used in these cold-weather states could cause the steering columns to rust through and possibly break off. In January, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration started investigating 35 reports of corrosion-related failure of the driver's-side front strut tower.
