Alex Mair, retired head of GM technical staff, Pontiac and GMC, dies

Alex Mair, former group executive in charge of General Motors' technical staffs and general manager of the automaker's Pontiac and GMC divisions, died Sunday in Orange City, Fla. He was 91. Mair was named group executive of GM's technical staffs in November 1978 and remained in that position until he retired in 1986.

Hakan Saracoglu has been appointed director of Chery Motor's Shanghai design facility. He will work alongside director of corporate design James Hope who continues in his role overseeing Chery design. Turkish-born Saracoglu joins the Chinese state-owned manufacturer from Porsche where he worked from April 1998.

Ferrari 575GT Zagato

Zagato recently unveiled their bespoke Ferrari 575GTZ at Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance in Italy. Zagato, based in nearby Milan, was commissioned by Japanese collector Yoshiyuki Hayashi to create a new body for his 575M in the style of the 250GTZ Berlinetta. Despite the same underpinnings as the 575M the whole car has been remodelled, striking a balance between its Fifties forebear and more contemporary Ferraris.
