Toyota Prius: Battery bottleneck limits Prius Output
Wed, 05 Aug 2009Battery bottlenecks are hurting efforts to boost output of the Toyota Prius to meet booming demand, and the problem will likely persist into next year, a Toyota official says. "The new Prius model has been excessively popular, inconveniencing some of our customers, and the factories are working overtime at full capacity," Takahiko Ijichi, Toyota senior managing director, said Tuesday at the company's quarterly earnings announcement. It's a follow-up to 2007's A1 Metroproject quattro concept, which previewed the three-door A1. Perhaps they decided last year – when Bentley were selling next to no cars – that shoving the Bentley logo on a range of upmarket toys was a way to bring in some much needed revenue. It was even reported at the nadir of Bentley sales that they had their craftsmen – who had nothing to do – churning out some bespoke furniture.
