Five years ago, when Ford considered a push to put a pricey, premium V6 in more F-150s, it seemed like a dangerous gamble with a macho, full-sized pickup known for toughness and capacity. To many dealers and company insiders, it seemed like a bad joke. "I once said, "Bubba don't buy nothing but a V8, and we've got a lot of Bubbas out here,'" recalls Martin Gubbels, owner of Big Sky Ford-Lincoln in Torrington, Wyo.

The Audi S1 becomes the Audi A1 1.4 TFSI Audi let it leak they were working on making a hot version of the Audi A1, and we fully expected that the Audi S1 would turn up at the Paris Motor Show. So when we heard that Audi had confirmed – but without detail – that the Audi S1 would be at Paris everything made sense, apart from the lack of detail. But now we know why we got no detail – Audi has backtracked on the S1 and has instead planted the oily bits from the Polo GTI in to an A1 and Christened it the Audi A1 1.4 TFSI.

Philip Glenister will be back on our television screens from Sunday 20 April with a new series called For the Love of Cars. This time it’s all real life, though, as he explores the history of six iconic British cars with a restoration twist.
