BMW set to go front-wheel drive
Wed, 17 Mar 2010BMW chairman Norbert Reithofer has confirmed that the German carmaker will introduce a new front-wheel-drive entry-level model positioned and priced below the existing 1-series as part of plans to help increase part sharing and to bolster the potential for production savings between the BMW and Mini brands, thus bringing an end to the era of rear- and four-wheel-drive-only BMW models. Speaking to AutoWeek at the Geneva motor show, Reithofer said internal BMW studies revealed that despite the downturn in the world's economy, there was continued demand for what he described as "premium vehicles" in the small-car class, before officially acknowledging plans that will see BMW produce a rival to the recently unveiled Audi A1 and a new Smart Forfour presently under development at Mercedes-Benz. "We will be extending the BMW and Mini brands into the small-car segment with new models and variants," he said.
MINI Traveller set to return
Mon, 25 Jul 2011MINI Traveller set to return You’d forgotten about the MINI Traveller, hadn’t you? Or maybe, as we foolishly did, you assumed that as the Countryman and Traveller were the same thing MINI would leave the Traveller moniker in the history books. No chance.
Renault Laguna Coupe (2008): first pictures
Sat, 24 May 2008By Ben Pulman First Official Pictures 24 May 2008 21:00 How do you add a dash of pizzazz to the underwhelming looks of the Laguna saloon? Renault’s answer - in the shape of the new Laguna Coupe - seems like a good one: lop off two doors, drop in a 3.5-litre V6 from the Nissan 350Z and garnish with your own four-wheel steer system. Make the car shorter and wider than the saloon and then get your imposing Lebanese CEO to drive it around the Cannes Film Festival.
