Autoweek in review: Geneva previews, IndyCar troubles and Ram goes diesel
Fri, 15 Feb 2013On Monday we talked about the 2014 Corvette Stingray and its place in Corvette history. We also checked out a used Porsche race car on Bring a Trailer and looked at which Formula One teams are not at risk of collapsing. We awoke on Tuesday to see video of a helicopter crashing during filming of “Top Gear Korea.” We looked at the interior of the McLaren P1 and saw some shots of the Alfa Romeo 4C before its reveal at the Geneva motor show.
Armor-plated SUV among extravagant debuts at Top Marques Monaco show
Tue, 26 Apr 2011While AutoWeek editors were pounding the pavement at the New York auto show last week, the world's silly rich were nodding polite approval at the Top Marques Monaco show. Included in the debuts were Gemballa, Fisker, Keating, Tirrito and Conquest, the latter of which showed off a ridiculously large, armor-plated SUV called the Knight XV that reportedly took organizers three hours just to maneuver it through the hall doors. Lest we forget that we're all human, Top Marques Monaco also had its “Black Friday at Wal-Mart” moments: According to organizers, Gemballa's world premiere of the Tornado was cut short after it was purchased “within 16 seconds of the show doors opening by a sheikh eager to have a piece of the action.” Full wrap-up release from Top Marques Monaco below.
Bentley considers S-Tronic technology for upcoming V8 Continental
Wed, 13 Oct 2010Bentley is considering equipping its future V8-powered Continental GT variant with a dual-clutch transmission that sister-company Audi badges as S-Tronic. Bentley's engineers are doing engineering studies on the feasibility of packaging the S-Tronic into the Continental's transmission tunnel. The major challenge is re-engineering and producing the GT's underbody and running gear to accept the S-Tronic, which is a different shape than that of the six-speed ZF that the W12 GT will employ.
