UP FOR AUCTION IS A MANUAL STEERING COLUMN REMOVED FROM A 1964 PLYMOUTH VALIANT THAT HAD AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH PUSH-BUTTON SHIFT CONTROLS. IT MAY OR MAY NOT WORK ON OTHER YEARS AS WELL, SO YOU SHOULD CHECK TO BE SURE. IT HAS A SMALL DENT IN THE COLLAR, THE CHROME TURN SIGNAL ARM HAS RUST, AND THE COLUMN ITSELF NEEDS TO BE SAND-BLASTED AND RE-PAINTED. A METAL RING THAT CLAMPS ONTO THE BOTTOM WILL ALSO NEED TO BE FIXED (SEE PHOTO). BECAUSE IT NEEDS WORK, THIS ITEM IS BEING SOLD FOR RESTORATION.

CELEBRITY heart-throbs such as George Clooney and Cheryl Cole have come second-best in a recent survey of drivers who were asked for their perfect partner on a long road trip. Six out of 10 drivers in the UK said they would choose their regular partner, whether that person is their husband, wife, friend or workmate, 61% of drivers asked said they would prefer their usual driving buddy to George Clooney or Cheryl Cole. Surprisingly, 11% of drivers surveyed by Halfords said they would be happiest with just a satellite navigation system for company on a long road trip.

Unique pre-war Lagonda saloon headed for auction

AN ULTRA-RARE V12-engined Lagonda Hooper two-door saloon from 1939 is set to headline an auction of amazing old cars. The Lagonda V12 Hooper is technically unique in history, having been built specifically for the wife of the owner of Hooper Bodies Ltd., the most noted coachbuilder of the pre-war era. Now, 75 years after it was built, it needs a complete restoration but still looks set to receive bids topping at least £75,000.

General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner is about to resign after eight years as the Obama administration prepares to decide on the automaker's request for additional government rescue loans, two people familiar with the matter said. A senior Obama administration official told NBC's John Yang that Wagoner, 56, was asked to step down by the White House. The automaker, which has lost about $82 billion since 2004, awaits word Monday from President Obama on a request for as much as $16.6 billion in additional U.S.
